New themes for the 2012-2013 school year

A schedule for the 2012-2013 school year was created by the team from Laval University in order to  provide KBIP participants with topics that could be used in the context of partnerships. You can view the calendar here.

Here is a quick overview of some of the themes:

October: Food

Students can investigate the delivery of food to urban areas and the related environmental consequences. The questions can also be related to the subject of agricultural areas and the factors influencing their location.

November: Urban Planning

Working on this subject, students will discuss the characteristics of their city. Waste management, transportation and energy sources are elements that can be addressed.

December: Religions and places of worship

Students can discuss the different traditions and religious celebrations of different religions. They also investigate the possibility of the presence of religious elements in their environment, such as places of worship and religious institutions.

February: Natural Resources

This theme allows various possibilities given the wide range of natural resources that can be studied. The natural resources proposed in the calendar are water, air and forests. Issues specific to natural resources are suggested. Here are some examples:

What are the impacts of air pollution on the climate of your city?
How water is filtered it to become drinkable?
What are the positive impacts of trees in our environment?

March: Renewable energy

The idea of this theme is to allow students to compare different energy sources according to the concepts of renewable and non-renewable energy, as well as renewable and non-renewable natural resources.

April: The Cultural Heritage

Students can reflect on the presence of the cultural and religious heritage in their society. Reflections are focused on the transmission of culture to future generations as well as preserving it. The idea is to build on the means of transmission used by our ancestors.
